OVERVIEW

“Build togheter”: a travel into italian culture and curved surfaces. In cooperation with SHAR – School of Architectural Development in Moscow – Russia, and Studio 2111 by Fabrizio Carola e Associati Naples- Italy, the project is born out by an idea of Vera Markina, architect and senior teacher of «Plastic modeling» and «Ergonomics» at SHAR , Educational Manager of the SHAR project «ARHSTUPENI», for students from 10 to 15 years old, member of the Union of Moscow Architects (UMA) . «ARHSTUPENI» project was born in 2011 and it’s held annually in different countries: Latvia, France, Germany, Georgia, Armenia. “Build Together” is an intense week program in Southern Italy, studied for young students passionate of Architecture to learn curved surfaces & a travel into italian culture in the amazing scenario of Naples and Amalfi and Sorrento Coast.

TEACHING METHOD

Studio 2111 by Fabrizio Caròla e Associati promotes eco suistainable architecture in terms of shape and composition, to offer a unique experience to those who takes part, experiencing all aspects of a rich formation characterized by moments of sharing, collaboration working in groups and reflecting on sensitive topics.
The methodology is based on alternation between the theoretical transmission of knowledge and the experience of a manual learning (from design to the practice of construction) to allow the participants an individual verification of the knowledge acquired. Both in the classroom as on field the work will be privileged in team.
Each module it will be performed using a teaching approach adapt to the ages of participants.

MODULE 1_WORKSHOPS ON CURVED SURFACES CONSTRUCTIONS TECHNOLOGIES

The lessons will be focused on the compass and domes. The staff of Studio 2111 will start from the study of realized projects of Fabrizio Caròla (1931-2019), italian architect winner of prestigious prizes and famous in all over the world for its eco sustainable architecture.

● Hints about the geometry of the domes;
● study about the project realized by the architect Fabrizio Caròla in Mauritania with nubian technology: Kaedi’s regional hospital;
● analysis about the functioning of the “compass” for the realization of the domes;
● study about different kinds of domes by the compass;
● presentation of realized projects by the architect Fabrizio Caròla based on the use of the “compass”;
● theory about projecting by the “compass”;
● project and design by hand by kids based on as assigned theme with the assistance and supervision of our team;
● support during the project about the assigned theme through revisions of the projects in the classroom.

MODULE 1_ PRACTICAL LESSONS

Realization of a dome with the assistance and supervision of the Studio 2111 staff. During the realization there will be given input about:
● construction materials;
● instruments and tools on the yard;
● composition of a mortar of cement to be used in the walls;
● realization of arches;
● realization of a dome of 1,5 meter of diameter.
● material used to build the dome: polystyrene or similar

MODULE 2_VISIT AT THE UNIVERSITY

A guided visit to the faculty of Architecture “Federico II University of Naples” with the support of a dedicated teacher:
● an introduction about the Italian University learning method;
● the faculty of architecture: training offer and professional opportunities;
● meeting with the faculty students;
●visit of the main palace, ”Palazzo Gravina”, and its classrooms, the ancient and the new library.

MODULE 3_ SKETCHES ON THE ROUTE OF MEDITERRANEAN ARCHITECTURE.

Sketching lessons it will be leaded under the direction of the teachers of the SHAR.

● given to sketches «curved surfaces»;
●  sketches daily critques;

MODULE 4_ EXCURSIONS AND GUIDED TOURS

Thematic guided tours focused on architectural and historical highlights of Campania Region, mixed with visits and experiences linked to the manufacturer.
