ITALIAN LANGUAGE & CULTURE IN STABIAE/SORRENTO COAST

LEVEL INTERMEDIATE

This course is designed for students with at least four /five semester study of Italian. The use of complex grammar rules is applied to conversation and writing skills and involve : sequences in past tenses, the use of present imperfect and past subjunctive to express personal opinions, will, hope, doubt, the hypothetic period in the present, past , future, the passive form and the direct and indirect speech.

  • COURSE MAIN AIMS:
  • To be able to interact in a rather fluent and spontaneous way and make oneself easily understood by native speakers.
  • To reach a good capability to communicate with an appropriate vocabulary.
  • To be able to produce clear and articulated texts on various topics.
  • To be able to understand and discuss topics related to complex texts or issues.
  • To read and understand a literary text/and or complex articles/paragraphs from current newspapers.
  • To be able to talk about cultural elements in Italian society and express opinions using an appropriate vocabulary.

 

  • TEACHING METHOD:

Classes are mostly conducted in Italian. The approach is comprehension-based. Students are required to interact with the professors. Participation and team working ability are encouraged in class. The professor must encourage students towards a challenging linguistic experience Priority is given to oral communication skills both incomprehension and language production.

During the course, the professor will check students’ level of comprehension and learning through written and oral tests and homework assignments. At the end of the course there will be a final written and oral examination.

Arrival at Naples airport. Tutor Welcome. Transfer by private bus to the Vesuvian Institute. Check-in & Welcome Dinner.

Day 2

9:00 – 11:30 a.m. Italian language lesson. Lunch at Vesuvian Institute. 3:30 p.m. Guided tour to Archaeological Site of Ancient Stabiae. Dinner at Vesuvian Institute.

Day 3

9:00 a.m. departure by private bus to archaeological site of Pompeii and guided tour. Lunch at Vesuvian Institute.3:30 – 5:00 p.m. Italian language lesson n.2. 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Archaeo – Lab: Simulation of Excavation. Dinner at Vesuvian Institute

Day 4

9:00 - 11:30 a.m. Italian language lesson n.3. 11:30 a.m. departure by private Bus GT to Gragnano and guided tour to the Ancient Pasta Factory “Afeltra”: workshop and demonstration about pasta production. 1:00 p.m. lunch with pasta tasting at “Maccaroneria” restaurant. 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. Lab of Roman Ceramic part.1.Dinner at Vesuvian Institute

Day 5

9:00 - 11:00 a.m. Italian language lesson. Departure by private bus to a beautiful beach in Sorrento Coast. Sack lunch. Dinner at Vesuvian Institute.

Day 6

8:30a.m. departure by private bus to Naples. Guided tour of National Archaeological Museum. Lunch in typical Neapolitan pizzeria in the heart of the city. Guided tour on the historical centre of Naples. Return to Vesuvian Institute and dinner

Day 7

9:00 - 11:00 a.m. Italian language lesson. 11:30 a.m. departure by private bus to Sorrento for guided tour of the city and time for shopping. Sack lunch. Visit and tasting at Limoncello Factory. Dinner at Vesuvian Institute.

Day 10

10:000 a.m. Departure by private bus to Gragnano for Cooking Class: The Real Neapolitan Pizza at Ancient Pizzeria “F.lli Mascolo”. Lunch in Pizzeria. Return at Vesuvian Institute and dinner

Day 11

9:00 - 11:30 a.m. Italian Lesson. 11:30-12:30 a.m Archaeo-Lab "Ancient Roman Music" by Synaulia Group. Departure with sack lunch to the sea.Dinner at Vesuvian Institute.

Day 12

9:00 – 11:30 a.m. Italian language lesson. Lunch at Vesuvian Institute. Walking tour of Stabiae historical center. Movie at Cinema. Dinner at Vesuvian Institute.

Day 13

8:00 a.m. Departure for daily cruise in Amalfi Coast wit sack lunch. Return to Vesuvian Institute and dinner.

Day 14

9:00 – 12:00 a.m. Italian language lesson & Final Exam.3:00 p.m. Lab of Roman Ceramic part.2. Ceremony of attendance. Buffet and Music Party in the Garden.

Day 15

Departure with sack lunck for Naples Airport.
